Percentile is not the same as percentage
These get mixed up constantly, and they mean different things.
Percentage is your own marks out of 100. An 8.8 CGPA is 83.6% — that number depends only on your result, and nobody else's.
Percentile is your position relative to everyone who took the exam. Being in the 90th percentile means you scored higher than 90% of students. It changes with how everyone else performed, and CBSE does not publish percentiles for Class 10.
So if you are looking for a "percentile calculator", what you almost certainly want is the percentage conversion above. If you want to know roughly where you stand against other students, use the rank predictor instead.
How CBSE converts CGPA to percentage
CBSE uses a single fixed multiplier:
Percentage = CGPA × 9.5
The 9.5 comes from the grade system itself. Each grade band covers a range of marks, and 9.5 is the average of the marks range across the A1 to C2 bands. This is why the maximum CGPA of 10 converts to 95%, not 100%.
To find the percentage for one subject, use the same formula on that subject's grade point. A subject graded A2 has 9 grade points, which is 9 × 9.5 = 85.5%.

Why is 10 CGPA only 95% and not 100%?
Because the multiplier is 9.5, not 10. The factor reflects the average marks range within each grade band, so a perfect 10 CGPA converts to 95%.
Does CBSE give a percentile for Class 10?
No. CBSE publishes grades and CGPA, not percentiles. Percentile is your rank relative to other students, which CBSE does not release. The rank predictor gives an estimate.
