How to Use an Answer Key Effectively

An answer key is most useful in the first few hours after an exam, while the questions are still fresh in memory. Here is the fastest, most accurate way to use one:

  1. Match MCQ answers first — each correct MCQ is 1 mark with no negative marking. Most subjects have 20 MCQs (= 20 marks).
  2. Check 1- and 2-mark answers — usually right or wrong, easy to score.
  3. For long answers, look for step marks — CBSE awards partial credit, so even partly correct working can earn 50–70% of the marks.
  4. Compare with your Phase 1 score — if your Phase 2 estimate is higher, that score will appear on your final marksheet.
  5. Avoid obsessing over individual questions — rough estimate is enough. The real score comes from CBSE.

About the Phase 2 (Second Board) Exam

CBSE Class 10 Phase 2 is the Second Board Examination introduced under NEP 2020 — it gives students who appeared in Phase 1 (February–March 2026) a second opportunity to attempt one or more subjects to improve their scores. The higher of the two scores counts on the final marksheet. Phase 2 is optional and subject-wise — you don’t have to give all papers.

For a complete preparation plan, see our Phase 2 Exam Guide. For the live countdown and last-minute tips per subject, see our Phase 2 Date Sheet page.

Remember: Phase 2 carries zero downside risk. Your Phase 1 marks are already secured. The higher of Phase 1 and Phase 2 will appear on your marksheet — appearing in Phase 2 can only help, never hurt.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will CBSE Phase 2 answer key 2026 be available?
Answer keys for selected Phase 2 subjects will be added to this page after the respective exams once the papers are checked. Coverage and timing depend on availability — please revisit the page after your exam day.
Is the CBSE Phase 2 paper harder than Phase 1?
No. CBSE Phase 2 follows the same syllabus, paper format, and difficulty level as Phase 1. The question paper is different but the structure — sections, types of questions, and marking scheme — is identical.
Do I have to give all Phase 2 papers?
No. Phase 2 is optional and subject-wise. You choose which papers to reappear for — one, a few, or all. Most students reappear in only 1–3 subjects where they want the biggest score improvement.
Can my Phase 1 score go down if I appear in Phase 2?
No. CBSE’s official policy is that the higher of Phase 1 and Phase 2 scores will be considered for the final marksheet. Appearing in Phase 2 can never reduce your Phase 1 marks.
Is CBSE Phase 2 the same as compartment exam?
No. CBSE Phase 2 is officially called the Second Board Examination. It is open to all Phase 1 students — whether they passed or not. Compartment exams are separate exams held later for students who fail in two or more subjects. However, students who failed in one or two subjects in Phase 1 can use Phase 2 to clear them.
CBSE Phase 2 mein kitne marks chahiye pass hone ke liye?
CBSE Class 10 mein pass hone ke liye har subject ki theory mein 33% (80 mein se 26 marks) aur internal assessment mein 33% (20 mein se 7 marks) chahiye. Overall bhi 33% compulsory hai. Phase 2 ka passing criteria Phase 1 jaisa hi hai.
Will Phase 2 result affect class 11 admission?
Yes — positively. The higher of your Phase 1 / Phase 2 score is the official CBSE result used for Class 11 admissions, stream selection, and scholarship applications. Improving even 5% in Phase 2 can open streams or schools that were out of reach after Phase 1.
